Agricultural School

Agricultural School - old-new
Agricultural School

For the districts of Münchberg and Naila a state agricultural center was established in 1920.  The first agricultural winter course took place in a adjoining room of the Bayerischer Hof (restaurant).  In that year two courses were added, for which the city of Münchberg provided classrooms and service rooms in the Park School.  In 1922 the government of Upper Franconia approved the building of an agricultural school, which was solemnly dedicated in 1926.  In the same year a country women’s school was affiliated.  In 1933 the building was taken over by the Imperial Board of Nutrition, but around 1939, with World War II, teaching was reduced or could not be carried out.  Around 1943 the building was used as an infirmary and later on as American troop accommodations until 1946.

Due to catastrophic conditions in bathing rooms, lavatories, eating and sleeping halls the Bavarian Diet took over the Münchberg Agricultural School.  In October 1954 the Münchberg Council decided to take over the costs of the school, and on November 23 the topping ceremony took place.  A year later the inauguration took place in the presence of the Minister of State, Dr. Baumgartner, the government President, Dr. Gebhard and other honored guests.  In 1956 the school building was also taken over by the county Board of Nutrition.  In the same year a work and demonstration space for the male division was erected.

In 1963 the building was raised and renovated so that the Agricultural Professional School on the first floor could be separated from the county apartments on the second floor.  In 1972 a new school schedule with three semesters and government school exams was introduced in the male division, which was tied to a second semester professional practice for the first time.  In 1978 there was, for the first time, a second semester in the division and a year later for the first time a third semester in Home Economics with government end of school year exams.  The computer system was introduced to the curriculum in 1987.  For this purpose there were 10 IBM PCs in a network with a home computer for instruction.  New school furniture was purchased for the third semester of the Agricultural department on 1997.  Three years later they bought ten new computers and shifted the computer instruction in an adjoining room of the factory building, which turned out to be impractical as a low cost outsourcing in the professional school in the Schützenstreet.  In the years 2002/2003 a general renovation of the Oskar-Fleißner-Street building took place through the county court, which included redesigning of the empty and professional spaces of the Agricultural School, Agriculture Department as well as a few office spaces, and the refurnishing of all rooms with a teaching kitchen.  In 2005 computer tables from District President Kulmbach were taken over and the computer instruction was shifted to the work hall.  At the same time, 18 computer work places were acquired through the taking over of computer equipment of the government Leadership Academy for Nutrition, Agriculture and Forestry, which closed its computer school room in Kulmbach.  With flat screens, documentary cameras and projectors classrooms in the last few years have been further modernized, and in 2012 new computer workstations were installed for instruction.

The Münchberg Agricultural School is a modern equipped educational establishment, which is well regarded.  Especially the teaching kitchens and the professional spaces in the Home Economics department will often be used by outside services for training and instruction.
